FREE Workouts all Summer Long in NYC

I love summer in the city. I love that the weather is finally comfortable enough for me, someone who is always cold, to skip the subway and walk all of Manhattan, from downtown to uptown, morning to night. I love August, when tourists and locals alike leave town and suddenly the city is quiet and peaceful. Most of all, I love all the great free events that return each May. I feel so connected to my city when I'm enjoying an evening Jazz performance or yoga class in one of our public parks.

One of the best things about these summer offerings is the free outdoor group exercise classes. Offered all summer long, they are a great introduction to a new fitness activity and an opportunity for starting healthy new habits in a stress-, judgement-, and commitment-free environment, surrounded by the energy and beauty of NYC.

Zumba & Salsa in Herald Square. DanceSport and the 34th Street Partnership are offering free Zumba and Salsa dance classes outside of Macy's on Broadway between 34th & 35th streets. Starting today, both of these classes are free and open to all.
Salsa - Tuesdays 530-630 pm through August 27
Zumba - Thursdays 530-630 pm through August 29

Warrior Fitness Class at 14th Street Park. Beginning in June, Wednesdays will become Warrior Wednesdays! The Warrior Fitness Class will be offered Wednesday evenings from 630-730 pm at 14th street park (located between 14th & 15th streets, 10th Avenue and the West Side Highway). All fitness levels welcome & no equipment required. According to the Chelsea Improvement Company's website, Warrior Fitness is "a total body workout in the park incorporating the body's natural resistance, yoga, and cardio using light bands and the elements of the earth."

Lululemon Yoga in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Beginning May 23rd, Lululemon will be hosting a free hour-long, all levels yoga class on Thursday nights from 7-8 pm. The classes will take place at the north end of Prospect Park's long meadow and will be taught by various Brooklyn yoga instructors.
