Piece o' Cheesecake: A Gym Membership for Under $5 A Week!

Are you hungry for a second slice o' cake? Because I've got a bonus blog post for you this week, from my New York City-focused series, Piece o' Cheesecake. I've got a hot tip on one of my favorite things: cheap workouts! This deal may be ending soon so I couldn't wait until next week to share it with you.

I knew that Planet Fitness had partnered with one of my favorite shows, NBC's The Biggest Loser. I also knew that they had recently arrived in the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan at 158 W 27th street between 6th and 7th avenues. What I didn't know was that they offer insanely low deals on gym membership at their clubs!

Right now, Planet Fitness is offering a $10 per month membership at their Chelsea location in NYC. According to the website this deal ends March 27th. Note that the deal comes with a $20 start up fee and a $29 annual membership fee, which still comes to less than $15 per month for your first year. Also, this deal is for access to the Chelsea location only. (You can get the same access-one-gym-only, $10 per month, deal for other locations too). There is a $19.99 per month deal that gives you access to all Planet Fitness franchise locations; however, we have only three others in Manhattan (two in Harlem and one in Washington Heights / Inwood). There are Planet Fitness franchises located in all five boroughs and all across the country.

Let me warn you right off the bat: There are no large workout classes. Also, you must bring your own lock and towel.

What Planet Fitness does offer is a lot of cardio and strength training exercise machines in a clean environment. You can learn how to use the equipment through small group fitness sessions which are "first come, first served to the first five (5) people who sign up." You can also sign up for a free private session with a trainer.

Planet Fitness seems to be a good place for someone who is new to the gym environment and wants to figure out what type of exercise routine works best for them without having to make an enormous commitment. If you are looking for a place where you can learn your way around a gym and build your confidence and comfort level, Planet Fitness may just be for you.

According to their website "About" page

We at Planet Fitness are here to provide a unique environment in which anyone - and we mean anyone - can be comfortable. A diverse, Judgement Free Zone

® where a lasting, active lifestyle can be built. ...We don't have any salespeople, and we don't bother with all the extras like juice bars and childcare that drive up costs and can make a gym membership seem more like a car payment. ...If you're looking for a comfortable, friendly place to exercise, and like a great deal, then you'll love Planet Fitness.
Before I go, this is a great opportunity to point out that each time I promote a brand or product on this blog it is coming, unsolicited and unpaid, from a place of genuine excitement and usually first-hand experience. So, you can rest assured that I'm sharing this information with you because I truly think it is something you should know about and could potentially benefit from. Remember to check with your doctor before starting any new exercise regimen.

Cheers!
Diane
